2022 fic roundup
Dec. 25th, 2022 07:14 pmGiven the way I've used this account so far I'm not sure whether this is the beginning of a tradition or if I will forget by the time next year comes around, but I still wanted to share a few words about my year re: writing fic. I don't usually do writing roundups at all, actually, but I feel like celebrating—returning to something I love doing with an enthusiasm I thought I'd lost warrants it, I think.
The statistics page of AO3 informs me that in 2022 I posted almost three times the word count of my previous most wordy year. It's a complete surprise to me, for most of the year I didn't even open a word document and I genuinely considered myself "over" fic writing (and writing in general). It turns out I just needed the right motivation to get back into it and that motivation was... a single ship, B'Elanna Torres/Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager, the only pairing I've posted fic for this year.
It's interesting to look back on these fics to me because before February I'd never completed or posted a 'purely' Voyager fic. Ever since I got into Trek my main writing interests have been DS9 characters and their (f/f) relationships, although I always had a soft spot for B'Elanna/Seven. I simply think bending their canon dynamic slightly more into shipping territory is very fun, and it has proven fun to write too! I went into it with a few ideas about what I wanted to do (mostly give B'Elanna some space, and I hope I managed that) and not do (I have thoughts about what makes Seven attractive, which differ from the show's intent), and apparently these ideas can fit into quite a few different plots!
Anyway, here's the roundup. Wishing everyone happy holidays, hopefully the new year will be a continuation of everything that was good about 2022!
A misunderstanding between Seven and B'Elanna spirals out of control.

Let's go back, let's go back and start again (WIP, Rated T)
A shipwide emergency turns out to be a lot more complicated to solve than B'Elanna is prepared for.
Projecting (~11k words, Rated T)
A dare turns into something more.

Doing The Unstuck (~4.6k words, Rated E)
B'Elanna and Seven, and a strap-on. What could go wrong?
